If you're renovating, excavating, demolishing or building you must submit your plans to us so we can check there'll be no impact on our asset and ensure we can still get to our pipes if we need to repair them. If you need building approval from a council or certifier, you also need our approval. This overview takes you through what you need to provide.
You'll need to refer to your building plans while you fill in the application. We'll ask you to attach an electronic copy of your building plan before we can approve it. This is usually the site plan.
If you can't attach your plan or don't have an electronic copy, you need to mail a copy to us:
Sydney Water
PO Box 399
PARRAMATTA NSW 2124
The location of your building or worksite must match the details you enter into the application. We'll ask you to read and agree to our Conditions and Important information before you submit your application.
Before we give approval, we'll ask you to fill in some details about the types of structures you're building on your property so we can make an assessment. For example, house or swimming pool.
You'll be able to:
If your structure meets the criteria for 'on the spot' approval, we'll email a copy of your approval and the agreed Conditions and Important information when you pay. You can take this to your development approval authority, for example, council.
If your structure doesn't meet the criteria for 'on the spot' approval, we'll give you some information to take to a water servicing coordinator. We'll email a list of water servicing coordinators to you in case you don't have one.
If you need to refer back to your architect to modify your plans, you can save your application and come back to it later.
