Together with Cricket NSW, we're educating and encouraging people of all ages to opt for tap water over bottled water and learn about the quality of our drinking water in the Greater Sydney region.
What's a 'Warragamba Slammer'?
The term 'Warragamba Slammer' originated in the early 2000s in pubs and restaurants in Greater Sydney to mean a glass of tap water. This name was chosen because the Warragamba Dam is Sydney's primary source of drinking water. It provides 80% of the city's water supply.
We've embraced the term 'Warragamba Slammer' in our campaign to rebrand Sydney's tap water. To promote awareness of tap water's quality and the benefits, we're giving out Warragamba Slammer drink bottles for free at home games for the Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers Big Bash League cricket teams.
Our partnership with Cricket NSW
As the official hydration partner of the NSW Blues, NSW Breakers, Sydney Sixers, and Sydney Thunder, we're promoting the use of Sydney's tap water. Together with Cricket NSW, we're educating and encouraging people of all ages to opt for tap water over bottled water or sugary drinks whenever possible. Tap water is a healthy, already filtered option. It's also the most affordable and sustainable choice for Sydney residents and athletes.
Why tap water?
Sydney offers some of the finest drinking water in the world, and it's much more cost-effective to fill a reusable bottle with tap water than to purchase bottled water. In fact, buying a 600 ml bottle from a store is nearly 2,000% more expensive than using tap water.
In Greater Sydney, we use modern water filtration and desalination plants. This ensures we achieve a consistent, high standard. Every drop meets the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, which are some of the strictest in the world.
